AI Paper-based Evaluation (Handwritten Worksheets)
AI Paper-based Evaluation lets you keep using paper in class while still getting AI support, fast feedback, and full digital tracking in Redmenta.
What this feature does
- Scan handwritten worksheets into Redmenta so each student’s paper work becomes a digital entry.
- Let AI suggest scores and feedback, which you can always review and edit before publishing.
- Connect paper-based results to competencies, data dashboards, and student learning journals, just like digital worksheets.
Before you start
- Students must have Redmenta accounts, and the worksheet must be shared with them in Redmenta; only then can you upload their handwritten work.
- The worksheet should be created in Redmenta and printed from the platform onto standard printer paper so the system can correctly match each answer to the right question with the help of special QR codes.
Here’s how you can use this feature:
Create and share the worksheet
- Create a worksheet in Redmenta (manually or with AI) and set up tasks and evaluation settings as usual.
- Share the worksheet with your students in Redmenta so they appear in the Evaluate menu and can be linked to uploaded paper entries.
Print and complete on paper
- Print the worksheet directly from Redmenta and distribute it to students.
- Students write their answers by hand on the printed worksheet; the special QR codes help the system locate each response during scanning.
Open the Evaluate menu
- After students finish, open the worksheet in Redmenta and go to the Evaluate menu from the worksheet’s options.
- If automatic AI evaluation is enabled for you, AI will later start evaluating as soon as the scans are uploaded; if not, you can trigger AI evaluation manually after upload.
Start “Upload paper based entries”
- In the Evaluate menu, scroll to the bottom and choose “Upload paper based entries”.
- Click Continue to open the upload link and QR code for your device.

Open the upload page on your phone
- Scan the QR code with your phone camera or copy and paste the link into your browser.
- This opens an upload page listing all students who are assigned to this worksheet; you will upload each student’s work to their own entry.
Upload each student’s pages
- Click on a student’s name to start uploading their work.
- Take photos page by page; ensure pages are flat, well lit, and fully visible so the AI can read handwriting and match answers correctly.
- After all pages for that student are uploaded, save the entry so it syncs back to the Evaluate view in Redmenta.

Let AI evaluate (and review it)
- Once uploads are saved, the student’s row in the Evaluate menu shows that their handwritten worksheet has been received, and AI evaluation starts automatically if auto evaluation is on.
- The AI suggests scores and feedback for each task (including many math problems, closed questions, and shorter written answers), but you can open the attempt and change any score, comment, or rubric-based evaluation before approving.
Finalise and publish results
- Review AI suggestions carefully, especially for longer written responses where handwriting recognition may not be perfect.
- Edit scores or feedback where needed and approve the evaluation so results and feedback become visible to students according to your evaluation settings.
- Once approved, the assignment appears in the student’s results and in their learning journal or competency views, contributing to your overall tracking and reports.

Tips and good practice
- Closed-ended tasks (e.g., multiple choice, numeric answers) are highly accurate; longer essays still require teacher review of both the recognised text and the suggested evaluation.
- This tool supports secure, paper-based assessments while still giving you AI-driven feedback, consistent evaluation, and centralised data for classes, schools, and districts.
Every scanned worksheet is proof of the work you and your students do every day, and this feature helps you save that work in one place. Let the AI handle the routine parts of marking so you can keep your energy for the conversations, insights, and breakthroughs that only you can create with your students.
